A visit to Tobyhanna army depot
Tobyhanna army depot uses latest technology to make sure that the Armed forces of the country are always ready and equipped. This is a complete service repair, fabrication and overhaul facility. The personnel working for Tobyhanna are trained to deliver services to ensure complete customer satisfaction. The services offered are not only efficient but their quality of the services and products is very high and yet cost effective. All the services are committed to be delivered on time.
The installation is accessible to railways, highways, seaports, airports, colleges, universities, colleges and industrial suppliers. The services are excellent in terms of community involvement and mission performance.
The depot is located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains. The dedication to excellence ensures the complete Army quality. There are many units of this army depot and they function to serve different purposes. Community service, family services, Army Lodging, Community recreational division are some of the divisions of Tobyhanna army depot.
If you stay at the depot then you will get a completely new experience that will not only be productive but very enjoyable as well. If you are an official visitor then the protocol officer will provide complete assistance and required information related to hotel reservations on travel orders issued by government.
There are certain restricted areas where you cannot use personal cell phones. This is done to prevent any interference with the electronic maintenance mission of the depot. However there is no such restriction in the areas where there are no electronic equipments and such areas would include the cafeteria and other exterior locations. You should not carry your phones with video or still camera if you are visiting this Depot because they are not allowed there.
All the vehicle operators are not allowed to use cell phones while driving. They can use hands free device if it is very essential for them to use their phone. Devices like earphones, headphones etc impair the hearing capabilities and the operators can fail to recognize the important announcements, human speech and signals. The rules are very strict and strictly followed here.
There are certain prohibited properties and not everyone is allowed to go close to them. You must stay away from the firearms, weapons, mace, explosives, tear gas, drugs, two way radios and the electronic radio equipments. No one is allowed to touch these things without authority. You must have a valid photo id card if you want to seek access in Tobyhanna Army Depot. If you are driving into the depot then you must have all the documents supporting car registration, mechanical inspection and insurance.
The hours of operation of the depot are Monday to Friday and from 7:30 in the morning to 4 in the evening. You can make a visit to the depot during these days within these timings but make sure you check the holidays.

Army Signal Corp Officers... what types of tech?
What types of tech do you work with, radio obviously but microwave, sat, computer networking stuff too?
Do all SC officers train in all the forms, or do you specialize like the enlisted people do in specific tech?
I heard a recruiter today talk to someone that it was mostly radio stuff, but my father had a signal corp officer friend who I'm sure mentioned working with more toys then just radios.
I did time in a Reserve Signal Company prior to sat comm. We used "radio teletype, RAT rigs. The radio vans used a flat faced cone like antenna. The "shot" would be from Pt. A to pt. B (repeater) to pt. C.
Wire crews would connect the 3 different vans, there were typists in the van with the teletype machines, there was an operator to monitor the signal converters, the radio van had 2 operators.
The Officers did the math to calculate the height of the antenna and the angles in degrees, based on Army terrain maps. If the antennae were not aimed right nothing worked. Other than that they were simply in charge.
I had the repair guy's, we just watched and laughed while they tweaked the shot. When something did not work we would go to the van and turn the device on. More often than not that was the problem.
That is all gone now. Now you need to know how to hit the satellite. Pretty sure they don't use the old repeater concept anymore. That required a full company of infantry to protect each of our locations.
