All About the Bushrag Ultra Light Ghillie Suit
I've seen some remarkably similar suits in the photo section of the group, I wouldn't doubt that several other people have the same suit
When they say the suit is ultra-light, they aren't kidding. I happened across the box early in the morning as I walked home from class. My first thought after bringing it into my house was "My god, I've been had, its empty." Quite the contrary, upon opening I found it was packed full of ghillie goodness and it took a lot of fluffing to bring it to full size. The material is tied on the same way most of us attach jute to the netting (and netting is all it is, there is no underlying fabric) and there is tonnes of it. It's like putting on a pullover and being that there is no fabric beneath the net, one would likely want to wear BDUs beneath (not like my jeans and t-shirt in the pictures, the good news is that you don't have to ruin them by gooing the net on to them, so new BDU's are A-OK.
This jacket set up is excellent. The top is much like hoodie and the bottom is like a poncho; nearly down to my ankles but it has slits along the leg so that I can move with great ease. Running is entirely possible in this full length body jacket though vaulting a fallen tree is inadvisable as the net may snag and you may have a face full of hurt afterwards. Let's take a look at some distinct pros and cons now.
Pros
Very Durable, at least it would seem this way, I pulled at the netting in many places and nothing pulled apart or snapped and the wrenching motion of my hands is more punishment than this ghillie will likely take. Very high quality net, I wish I could find some to home make a ghillie or two.
I'm a big guy and got the Medium-Large version (it also comes in XLs) this fits very well, the hood covers my head easily, the arms go down to my wrist and when my arms are extended they don't ride up to the elbow like some tight clothes do. The bottom of the jacket does end half to a full foot above my legs but this seems to be advantageous, I hate crawling and find sometimes when spotted in paintball or airsoft I need to take flight. Getting up quick from a prone position is never much fun) This design allows me to do so easily without getting material tangled in my feet. It's also very spacious in the body section.
Plenty of color variation. Lots of greens, browns, and hints of blacks and grays. Any problems with the color could easily be rectified by localised dyeing or misting with a spray can 2 to 3 feet away to alter the hue.
Cons
No material. As nice and light as it is, it would be nice to have some kind of cloth material on it, especially for the upper body. The netting is tough like a chain link fence but its coarse and not pleasant to the skin. Bear arms beware.
Could use some more ghillie, I find it's a little bit thin in some places but anyone wearing BDU's would find it looks like a bush, not the case when you have a white T and jeans on beneath so it's not something you can just throw on and have at it with, you will need something dark on beneath or you can un tie material and reattach in other places as you see fit.
THE NECK and this what annoyed me the most and by most I mean not much since I love this suit: The suit is in need of some kind of neck cinch to bring it up around the chin rather than down by the chest, I have this whole section of white there now and am in no mood to wear a balaclava in the summer. I do stoop when I'm stalking about in the woods so perhaps this will disguise the issue.

Keep in mind that he took off some material from the front and put it on the back and attached some to give his paintball mask to get the bearded ghillie look. The box he will show you is the same as the box I received.
His looks nicer in my opinion, maybe because all the front material is on back, and he added some leaves. I'll do this again sometime and throw up another review, I also have "the art of camouflage" by bushrag in the mail. If only I could share it somehow.

looking or some info regarding the old bdu uniform from the mid 1990s.?
can anyone assist with any info regarding the parts of the uniform and gear, what size they came in, if there was a male uniform and a female uniform or 1 uniform for all, what was the color and name of the web gear and rucksack what color of t-shirt did they wear (and if it was the same for the underwear and if the underwear and bra warn by women was what ever they wanted to get from the store), what was the color and type of socks warn, and so on. i have been watching army movies from the 1980s and 1990s and have been using them or guides and was wondering if that is ok or not. any help would be great. thanks
Movies normally screw something up.
BDUs came in 7 sizes (XXSmall, XSmall, Small, Medium, Large, XLarge, XXLarge), and 6 lengths (XXShort, XShort, Short, Regular, Long, XLong, XXLong). They were all mixed such as S-XS, M-R, M-XXL, etc. There were special sizes that were in extreme from the basic spread, i.e.: some who was very tall and skinny, could get a M-XXXL, but these extreme sizes usually had to be ordered outside of the basic training facilities.
The BDU was unisex, but there was a maternity version for females.
For most of the life of the BDU, webbing and associated gear, or "TA-50" - named from the authorization document, came in basic olive green. Beginning in the mid-90s, TA-50 in the BDU woodland pattern began to be issued, but was not universal across the Army.
T-shirts were initially olive green or brown, and as the wear-out date for the olive green uniforms was reached, the brown t-shirt was the only one generally authorized. Underwear mirrored that; issue underwear was in green and brown, then just brown. Female issue underwear was white and plain. However, outside of the training environment, males and females could wear pretty much whatever underwear they wanted as long as all you could see was the brown t-shirt. There were some underwear restrictions for those in hazardous environments, i.e.: fuelers, aviators, etc, who had to wear very specific all-cotton or wool underwear, no synthetics, etc.
Socks were the same as underwear. Issue socks came in black, brown, and green. However, in practice, as long as you could not see the colors, you could wear whatever you wanted.
Boots were all-black leather, green and black jungle boots, or all-black jungle boots. There were several versions of all those, and Commanders could dictate which specific boot for ceremonies or environmental reasons, i.e.: my battalion commander in Korea prohibited us from wearing jungle boots of any kind during the winter.
