Friend about to deploy wants to buy a tested combat knife?
Been doing lots of research, but curious if any of you out there who have seen service or have someone serving in current battlefields have a preference and why? Thanks for the help and information.
Probably the most common would be the Kabar, but there are a lot of tactical knives out there. Is he looking for a fixed blade or a folding knife?
You didn't say what branch, but I know that the Marines have a pouch that you can attach to the flak that holds a Kabar, so I'm sure that's available in other branches as well. My husband asked for one at CIF when he went and got his issued gear, and considered taking his kabar, but didn't.

And just to concur with the guy below me, a fixed knife would probably be a bit easier than a folding knife, given the dirt and sand that could clog up the hinge
