Guide to Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv is fast emerging as one of the leaders in exciting and innovative places to visit. With a multitude of places to go and an array of nightlife, shopping, tours, history and culture to immerse yourself in, there is little wonder why. Here are just a few things that you can do in the city and around Israel.
Tel Aviv Beaches
- Beaches in Tel Aviv are beautiful with soft white sand and stunning clear blue sea, and there are many to choose from all the way from North to South Tel Aviv. Some of the best spots include Bograshov, Frishman, Gordon, and Hilton beaches. The most lively and vibrant is Gordon beach with bars, restaurants, sports and music throughout the day and it is situated near the marina. You can watch kite surfing, sailing school, and plenty of matkot (the national beach sport consisted of paddles and a small rubber ball).
- There are several tours available both in and outside of Tel Aviv. Some of the options are trips to Jerusalem, Haifa, Ein Gedi (Dead Sea and Masada), Eilat, Galilee and trips to Petra. Using an Israel tour operator is a great way to plan a stress-free trip before you even board the plane. If you have an interest in food and wine then look for specific food and wine day tours which incorporates classes on regional israeli cooking techinques and ingredients with related tours and tutorials. More of an adventure traveler? Then take a trip to the Negev desert and spend some time with the Bedouins. They provide excellent hospitality with delicious food and traditional tea and coffee, with options for over night stays in Bedouin tents in the desert.
Day Excursions
- A great way to see the city and the country is by bike and there are organized bike tours available all over Israel. They generally combine biking and hiking but its possible to integrate other activities such as rafting, rapelling, bedouin hospitality, shopping, jeep and safari tours. Ask your Israel tour operator about tailor made tours in Israel. Israel is a country full of history and another great way to get up close to that is to join an archaeological dig. There are several sites in operation all accross the country and nearly all of them accept volunteers with no experience. There is accommodation near the sites and there are often designated areas for camping close by. The dig leaders are excellent sources of information so be sure to pick their brains whilst volunteering with them!
