Visor warning lights - the perfect emergency vehicle lighting
If you have been unfortunate enough to be stopped by a police officer whilst you are driving then you will possibly have seen how effective Visor warning lights are. When emergency vehicles are stationary it isn't always appropriate or suitable to have all of the lights on the vehicle in use. The visor lights can illuminate a scene without causing glare to other road users. In some cases it is true that less light is more effective and certainly can be safer for other road users. The visor lights when used with a lightbar provide a massive amount of very good powerful lighting and that is crucial on nearly all emergency vehicles.
Lighting for emergency vehicles dates back to the 1930's when it was first used to act as warning. The single rotating strobe light was at the time probably the only additional lighting that would be fitted to an emergency vehicle. As our roads and highways got busier and fuller with traffic the addition of more lighting was needed. Emergency vehicles need to be seen and the lights help greatly with the visibility. We also need advance warning of emergency vehicles and the lights and sirens certainly inform us when they are in the area. Visor warning lights are becoming more and more popular because of their versatility.
The Visor warning lights are cost effective as they are smaller units. They can be easily fitted and can run from the cigarette lighter. A visor light can be virtually invisible from outside the vehicle when it isn't switched on and that can give police officers especially the edge. A police vehicle that doesn't want to be seen as such can have hidden lighting and the visor light is almost hidden until the unit is employed. Surveillance vehicles would benefit from having a visor light as they can switch it on only when they want their presence known.
As the newbie on the block the Visor warning lights are probably not widely seen at the moment. The fact that the units are so effective and versatile and well priced will mean that they do become more popular. Ease of operation, ease of fitting (many just strap over the visor itself) and choice on how it is powered means the lights are very good value and can be a huge asset in emergency vehicles. The fact that the visor lights that contain the new LED lights means you can get a huge amount of light from a small and inexpensive unit. The visor warning light really could be the perfect emergency vehicle lighting.
