Questions for boot camp. USMC?

I don't know how to swim. I know the movement of swimming. I could swim like a frog under water. I just don't know how to float. I asked a lot of recruiters and poolees and they say they'll teach you, JUST LISTEN.

Any suggestions on how to get fit? If you say weight training please say what. Like bench press? Curls? Stuff like that.

I know I need to run. I run every other day. Any suggestion/tips should be fine. 5 stars to the best answer. Thanks

You will be taught basic swim strokes in recruit training and they will teach you to discard heavy gear in a few seconds and how to float. They'll teach you a few methods of floating and swim methods that don't tire you out. It would be helpful to learn to swim but, it is not necessary unless you want to get into advanced units, most of those will require advanced swim quals.

The most important exercises are the ones you'll need for the PFT. You must do a minimum of 3 pull ups and 20 will give you the maximum score of 100. You must do a minimum of 50 crunches in 2 minutes; 100 crunches in 2 minutes gives the maximum score. The minimum you can do on the 3-mile run is 28 minutes; 18 minutes will give you the maximum score. You can score a maximum of 100 in each category but, doing the minimum in each category only score 110, that's below the minimum required for an overall score of 135. You should be shooting for a score of 225 by the time you take the PFT at the end of recruit training.

If you want to do curls or bench presses, that is fine. What you need is endurance and muscle tone, not large muscles. Select a weight you can do 30 to 40 reps with to get muscle tone. Once you get to 50 reps go to a heavier weight. You shouldn't do bench presses without a spotter, you may need him if you get tired and can't lift the weight.
